I would be interested in the formula to regrow the eyelashes on the eye where there is none. But I am concerned about potential permanent eye damage. It looks like this stuff is an eye drop but it works in a way to regrow the lashes. Is this true for AA and AT? Can it be used easily without complications? Also, I wanted to thank the writer for the link to the offshore *. Can we try the Aldara through this outfit ? WOW!

Hi
Just a quick word of encouragement to let you know that my eyebrows and eyelashes came back naturally over time and have managed to stay around for a few years by now. I don't know much about the product you're thinking of trying but I just wanted to pass on that they can grow back on their own and not to give up hope.
Best wishes.

I just wanted to let you know that I did use Xalatax eye drops. These drops were recommended to me by my derm who said they are really good for regrowing eyelashes. i did use them with no side effects and , although there were already some signs of regrowth, now I have my eyelashes back. The only problem is that they are terribly expensive.

This is an interesting discussion. Xalatan (latanoprost) is mainly used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Perhaps there is some relationship between this approach and the genomed trial with ACE inhibitors, since both drugs aim to reduce blood pressure. I'm not trying to say that blood pressure can induce AA, but maybe there is a similar molecular pathway of both drugs with a strong anti-inflammatory effect.
Some side-effects of Xalatan seem serious though. As tasha said, maybe they could be avoided by using the drops topically instead of inside the eye.
Fran: How did you use your xalatax? Did you actually use it inside the eyes or just applied some drops over the eyelashes?
There's a study on latanoprost and AA, but I don't know what conclusion they reached because the abstract is empty:
quote: NATURE Eye. 2003 Apr;17(3):444-6.
Cutaneous latanoprost in the treatment of alopecia areata.
Mehta JS, Raman J, Gupta N, Thoung D.
I'm gonna try emailing the author about the study and then I'll post his reply (if he answers).

3 times a day I applied one drop of Xalatan over the eyelid where the eyelashes are supposed to be. i was a bit worried at first but my derm said that the worstthat could happen was a slight change in the colour of the eyes, which did not happen anyway. I was very pleased with the results.

Thank you fran for your quick reply.
A couple more questions:
Did you ever feel that the drops were sometimes falling into your eyes? (maybe it would be safer to put a drop on your finger and then rub the eyelash area).
And did you ever try it on your eyebrows?

Anything that could bring the lashes back is interesting. BUT, I've read a few articles on Xalatan and I find it a bit worrying that it can change the color of the iris. If I have understood this right (and I hardly never do... ) this is many times the case for people with mixed eyecolor. Like me, my eyes is brown-green in color. Of course if we could apply the drops only to the eye-lid without getting the stuff in our eyes it would be better.

I agree with you Snafus. I have the same fear since I have slightly hazel eyes. But like you said, it should be ok if you don't let it into your eyes.
