Cicatrical Alpecia
Hi, I am from India. I have one or two small hairless patches on my head where the skin is slightly hard. It has been diagnosed as Cicatrical Alopecia, can I get some information on what it is, what are its causes and what could be possible treatments? Thanks, Ashwin

Cicatrical alopecia means a scarring alopecia. There are several different scarring alopecias, the most common ones being called "lichen planopilaris" and "pseudopelade". Very little is known about scarring alopecias. Some dermatologists claim they are a form of autoimmune disease, others disagree. Treatment when the hair loss is actively expanding involves anti inflammatory drugs. When the hair loss stabilizes the only treatment option is to transplant hair follicles to the bald area or to cut out the affected skin entirely. _________________ Kevin - The management - keratin.com
