Hey, i googled hairloss and marijuana and this forum came up. This is the first time i have seen this site and i am glad i found it.

This may help some...

I have been a chronic Chronic smoker for the past 5 years. The past 2 years I have been smoking High Times grade pot only like 3 to 6 times a day everyday. My 2009 New Year Resolution was to quit smoking. I am now 55 days clean.

Since high school i have notice my hair getting very thin at the exact top and along the sides. About the same time I began smoking heavily. Oddly enough those are the parts that seem to stick around when androgen sets in.

Anyway, for the past year or so i would see tons of hair in my drains and on my sink even newly sprouted baby hairs at that. No matter what shampoo or what oil I tried nothing stopped my hairs from coming out. Even gently pulling at them or styling caused several to come out. I even used Saw Palmetto which just screwed up my hormones. Stay away from that life long commitment. Its like those little eggs in that movie The Relic once you stop youre screwed.

Exercise was my next recourse. This helped phenomenally but no growth at the very top. So I changed my diet and kept exercising. Not much difference. Finally, I decided the problem had to be internal. Toxicity, something?

I have a low blood pressure and my body runs pretty cool, about 97.7F. THC is a vasodialator and causes your vessels and veins to expand. This compounded the problem of my low blood pressure, especially considering we were all just sitting around most of the time while we smoke anyway. Soon a big enough hit caused my face to flush, i mean ghost white. The next day after a big smoke session there was a lot of hair in the drain, my brush, and sink.

Now at just 55 days sober there is no more hair in my sink, my brush or my drain. I can pull on my hair and it refuses to come out. Well maybe just one after several pulls and not several after one pull. The top is beginning to come back again.

I attribute a lot of my hair problems to the THC toxicity the weed was building up around my follicles, the vasodialation that was basically starving my scalp for oxygenated blood (as there was no pressure getting up to the very top), and if i consider the fact that the weed resin was blocking a lot of my lungs ability to absorb oxygen. THC was a triple whammy on my follicles.

Quitting smoking has not been the only thing that has helped me a great deal in such a short time.

1. I use APPLE CIDER VINEGAR when i rinse my hair. No more flaky scalp causing fallout which as of late was getting to be a major issue. I mean I was seeing big flakes with hairs attached to them.

2. I use a sodium lauryl sulphate free shampoo that is 85% Aloe Vera and all natural. I read aloe has healing properties and lauryl sulphates are very bad for skin.

3. I began to supplement iodine and Cal-Mag. This helps my low body temp and keeps my new hairs from prematurely falling out. Iodine deficiency is a big problem and a lot of people dont know they need more than they are actually getting. I am a big guy 6'5" plus. Mineral and vitamin RDIs are much higher for my body type.

4. Cut red meats down to once a week. Eat salads twice a day and make something besides meat the main part of my diet. I eat a lot of fish now and not from a can.

5. Exercise, exercise, exercise. I push progressively heavier weights, sprint, and run long distances. Weights and sprints help build up APT production from sugar and long runs help produce APT from fat cells. Long distance running causes a lot of sweating which cleans the skin from the inside out and helps diminish the levels of DHT stored in the scalp.

6. Cut drinking down to once a week. This will help big time and I just started doing this as I am finally past my marijuana with drawls. I think by July I will have made a near full head of hair recovery.

Quitting smoking pot and using apple cider vinegar rinses were the last two things I have started doing and they have done the most for my hair.

hey "get fast" this is very encouraging news for me. I am about 28 days clean after 10 years of 3-6x daily use. Really good pot like you the kind seen in high times its has a very nice pungent smell that i loved and still do. I have a jar of it still i find it easier to quit knowing that i could smoke at anytime and not have to go through the time and hassle of calling "my guy" waiting 1-3days for him to come around im strange like that. Its not on my mind as much that way.

Anyways like i said your post is really encouraging, im not sure the reason for my loss its the typical receding hair line seen in most cases of people with the hair loss gene. Im not sure if its genetic or if it was because the almost bi-polar state my self medicating with ganj was putting me in. I would get upset, smoke and feels tons better throughout the day rather then sticking things out since ive quit things have leveled out to no highs and lows, except after working out. Maybe after some time my somewhat drastic life style changes will start helping but nothing yet.

All those things youre doing are great and along the lines of what i do. I also have very low blood pressure, cold hands and feet. After quitting i started working out again hardcore, ive made some very quick muscle gains after just 3 weeks and my hands arent cold anymore. My bench has gone from a very pathetic 90lbs (8-10reps) to a still low 145lbs while cutting up at the same time in just 3 weeks.

I barely do any type of cardio though both in the gym and out i need to get more exercise in that regard, im pretty skinny and i kinda hate cardio so i didnt see a need but i know it will help with a lot of things. Whats this APT production deal?

I started eating spinach salads at night with whatever meat i make, not red meat ever im not that into it anyways but chicken or fish. i like it and with the reduction in calories it helps keep me full. Kens just came out with a great new salad dressing line they replaced their Lite dressings with this "healthy lite" line which has some Omega's in it and tastes great i like Caesar the best. Im Greek and when i was young my grandmother was always making those high fat Caesar and Greek dressings which i loved.

Im going to try the apple cider vinegar rinse it sounds like a good idea. i havnt bought any type of shampoos. What is that stuff like is it a food i can find? Ive always yanked on my hair and it never was really weak to come out even now except for those stupid "whispy" hairs on the front line that are being DHT affected. Im not much into the shampoos, can i find this type of stuff at the grocery store?

Do you know any natural sources of iodine?

Also i wanted to mention i found a site that i ordered some propecia from, i know its a completely different route for stopping the hair loss then all of these steps and im kinda skeptical about trying it. Its for people that are genetically pre-disposed to hair loss which i might be but im not sure.

The script hasnt shown up yet and im not sure if im going to start when it does or give my natural methods more of a try im just shy of a month off of weed and the other changes ive made and no progress yet on the balding front actually the loss is continuing but the changes might be taking a while to take affect. If it works Propecia can be pretty cheap as it is i pay less than $1 per pill but if done right you can get it down to less than 25cents per daily dose even if you dont have insurance.

Anyways man good luck you seem like youre doing really well, better then me. If you want to keep posting and get more responses try this forum here:

Hey guys...
Me and my friend are having similar problems.
And I KNOW it is from the weed.
Because we both smoked it... And both started loosing a ton of hair shortly after.

I'm only 19... And i'm so depressed about it.
I've quit smoking that shyte... and am trying to exercise regularly... Eat good food, etc...
Does anybody have any encouragement for my situation???
I really hope my hair grows back...

It seems almost like its androgenic... But I KNOW that I'm not supposed to be experiencing that at this age.
Before I smoked that weed... My hair was thick and full.

This damn Hydro shyte...
Screw shady dealers man... And their Goddamn Fallout Weed. Evil or Very Mad

Marijuana and Male pattern hair loss.

Surprised

Ok...
So I've been doing some extensive research about hair loss and early MPB... with the use of Marijuana.
This is because I am only 19... And after smoking pot off and on for about a month... I noticed drastic hair loss in the form of Androgenic Alopecia.
It was not only me that noticed this change...
It was everyone else that smoked with me.
Thus leading me to beleive it was indeed the GANJA that did it.
I have since stopped smoking and am trying to correct my problem.

But anywhooooo...
Now for my findings.
I beleive I have found the reason for the MPB onset through marijuana.

Marijuana has been proven to offset certain hormones with use in some cases.
In fact... It is a main cause of a condition called Gynecomastia... Which is where young men can grow man boobs due to an over-abundance of Estrogen and not enough Testosterone.

I took this next info from an article about Gynecomastia
READ ALL ABOUT IT
Check out "Illegal Drugs-Marijuana"

"What causes gynecomastia?"
Gynecomastia is usually caused by changes in hormones at birth, puberty or as part of aging. Gynecomastia may be caused by changes in the balance of 2 hormones: estrogen and testosterone. In adults, the balance of hormones may be affected by:

* Aging
* Disease
o Tumors of the adrenal glands, testes or pituitary glands
o Hyperthyroidism
o Hypogonadism
o Kidney disease
o Liver failure
* Medications
o AIDS medicines
o Anti-anxiety medicines
o Antibiotics
o Chemotherapy
o Some medicines for cardiovascular disease
o Tricyclic antidepressants
o Ulcer medicines
* Illegal drugs
o Anabolic steroids
o Amphetamines
o Heroin
o Marijuana
* Alcohol"

If marijuana can indeed cause this condition... than that completely explains my hair loss.
You see... When estrogen becomes dominant in a males body... DHT is mass produced... This is because one of DHT's major jobs is to keep estrogen at bay.
Because of this...
You are lacking real androgen that normally would bind to a healthy males hair... because it is being turned into DHT in order to fight off the estrogen.
Its a rather viscious cycle.

STOP HERE:
"Wait!!" you say...
"Your loosing hair not growing bitch tits... Doesn't that mean that you don't have this condition??"
Ahah!!!
All to true... But let me further explain.

Some people... Are just naturally lacking the receptor sites at their chests to grow boobies.
and thus... Won't notice much of a change there...
However... those with lots of androgen receptor sites in their scalp... WILL notice the effects of the DHT.
Surprised

Before you freak out if this seems to be describing what has happened to you...
Know this...
That this condition is often fixable if the cause is eliminated.
(In this case the weed smokage)
And things can be done to lower your estrogen... and raise your testosterone.
To restore natural balance.

I WILL NEVER SMOKE AGAIN.
Hahah
Although the ganja grass is very enjoyable.
This experience has been traumatizing.

Peace.
And good luck all.
Mr. Green

l have read that Smoking does or kan cause constriction of the blood vessels which leads to a decreas e in your blood flow to the area of the scalp, mostly because of the nicotine content

its said that Cigarette smoke has about 4,000 lethal chemical that are damaging and can cause normal hair loss.

I definitely believe that smoking marijuana causes hair loss!!
Im a 27 female and have smoking weed (almost daily) for about 5-6 years. My hair has always been on the thinner side but over the years it became so thin that I can see my scalp, and when i pull it back its the size of my ring finger in the pony tail. I never linked weed with hair loss until I started doing some research and ran into blog sites like this one. I noticed every time I smoke I get a strange tingly, pain sensation on my scalp especially the top middle areas (where it is really thin). So I quit at the end of February, then slipped up a couple days ago and the sensation came back.
The scientific community cannot find any "proof" that this may cause hair loss but after reading what everyone says on here, how can you not be convinced? So as much as I love weed, Im going to quit this time, and pray that my hair regrows. I don't usually blog on sites but I just had to this time and Ill come back to let you know how things go...

hey all

I am 19 years old and I have been smoking high grade pot for about 5 years now of and on (mostly on). I noticed my hair starting to thin when i was about 17. I knew it was the pot that was causing my hair loss, but refused to face the facts..And after a while, i just stopped caring. But now im in my 2nd year of college and think its time to grow up and grow some hair. So im about 2 weeks into it, and am already seeing those little baby hairs grow in.

Now, my question to you all; What about weed brownies, muffins, etc.? Or even a top of the line vaporizer? I would think that after vaping or baking the weed it would take out most of those unnecessary chemicals, dont you? But i do not want to risk it because i like my results and havnt fealt this healthy in years.

I would also like to add that I do not believe that pot has the same effect on everyone. I believe that about 1 of 5 people live with this "allergic reaction."

Thanks to all who respond,

-Tom

Also wondering about vapes...

I toke regularly but only via vaporizer, though.

Recently had a haircut (worst one ever, actually) and the hairdresser person thinned out my hair pretty badly. It sent me into a stressful "is this MPB?" episode.

I'm waiting to see if my hair will grow back in, or if weed is quickening MPB.

I know people are saying its the weed, but I am wondering more if it is smoke and/or carcinogen-related. Something a quality vape would filter out.

A search for 'cigarettes hair loss' produces equally alarming results. This leads me to believe that the hair loss is triggered by the act of smoking, but not necessarily because of weed itself.

Ok so it seems I am somewhat reviving this thread. Anyway, 22 here and experiencing some hair loss. Heavy pot smoke for 6 years (2-6 a day, every day).

Anyway, I was just wondering, do you guys think that in order to prevent hair loss it is actually necessary to completely smoke weed? I'm wondering, since it's a hard thing to give up completely. I have qa connection with pot, it's part of my character, and I don't want to part for it completely.

For the past month or so, however, I've only been smoking once a week, maybe a joint or two that night. Small ones, too. Mind you it is very potent stuff and always has been. I've started exercising, doing an hour-long cardiovascular workout 5 times a week. Gave up cigarettes nearly two weeks ago. Am eating better now than I probably have at any other point in my life. I'm really trying to improve my health in every way possible.

Going to see a dermatologist in one week. Heavily considering the laser treatment option from hlcconline, as well. I am seriously trying to keep all option open, and might even go for a small transplant if need be. Luckily, I used to shave my heae nearly completely when I was younger, and honestly don't look bad at all that way, in fact far from it, so that might be an option as well (though my least preferred). A little weary of the Laser treatment option though. The price is fine, I don't have an issue with it necessarily. I understand how it works. Thing is though, it comes with a whole bundle of hair care products that they encourage you heavily to use in conjunction with the laser machine (in my case, I'm looking at a 50 diode option, it's much better than any brush, I can tell you that ). Anyway, this hair care bundle includes a shampoo and a conditioner (both SLS free, among having other benefits for those with a dry, dirty scalp). You get a version of Minoxidil, which is alcohol-free and is a lot more effective in its delivery of the active ingredient, and thus only has to be applied once a day - HUGE benefit). And also an orally-ingested tablet containing saw palmetto. The company claims that it is pure and does not have any of the side effects of commonly-sold supplements. You can order and use the hair care bundle without the laser device (it's actually sort of like a lamp, as it has many diodes, you actually sit under it). The good thing is that the 50 diode version is very portable. The laser should be used every other day between 30-60 minutes.

I know I went off-topic there and spoke a lot about the laser option I am considering, I wanted to let you guys know about it as well, in case you didn't.

I am happy to say, however, that I have a feeling that my hair loss has slowed down a lot since I started treating myself better. And although it may just be wishful thinking in my head, it is possible that some hairs are growing back (it isn't that long ago that I first started losing hair, maybe a few months). I have increased my iron intake considerable by eating beans and other legumes, clams and other iron-rich foods (not overdoing it though, don't worry). I am also eating a good amount of seaweed salad every day, and drinking about 6 cups of green tea.

So that's my story. Take the time to read it and let me know what you think. Remember, the main thing I'm wondering about is whether marijuana use really needs to be eliminated completely in order to avoid any harmful side-effects? Like I said, would it be sufficient for a once-heavy smoker to only smoke on occasion? Even if it's only once or twice a month?
