Dermatologist list needed?

I receive Email messages on a regular basis from people who want to find dermatologists that specialize in hair disease in their locale. Unfortunately I don't really have a list to provide people with. I can only refer people to dermatologists I have met at hair research conferences.

Do you think a list of dermatologists on keratin.com would be useful?

If so would anyone like to recommend a dermatolgist in their area for addition to a list?

I think a list of dermatologists would be useful. I also want to express my gratitude to you for having created this website.

I was recently diagnosed with alopecia areata. At the time, I didn't understand what autoimmunity meant and the dermatologist's time was too limited to explain. Since then I discovered keratin.com. Your website has given me a solid understanding of this disease and answered so many questions when I was feeling a lot of fear. At my second dermatologist appointment I raised concerns about further local steroid injections (what are the side effects, the toxicity?), but wasn't provided with much advice. I've since decided to forego further treatment and have discovered a bit of fine hair regrowth (though not all over the patch). In any event, I would have preferred to see a doctor whom others recommended, or who has a special interest in this condition.

Keep up the good work!

I was told that there might be a hosiptal in the Conn. area that has a clinic that focuses on hair loss. I have noticed my own hair slowly thin Well, not that slowly thin. I'm made an appointment with my phys. I am hoping for a referral for him to a dermatologists. It seems silly to pay the money for an office visit just to get a name so that I may set up an other appointment. i can't ask my friends I'm female and afriad I'll call attention to my "problem"

Unfortunately I can't think of anyone I know in Conn. Perhaps if you have a good experience with the dermatologist you can tell us the details and I can start making up a dermatolgist list.

dear kevin,
I am new to your website, and I must say that I am pleased with how you help all of us with information on hair loss. Anyway, even though it is not feesible for you to recommend a derm to individuals all over the country, please, at least give the names of dermatologists/ and or endocronologists that YOU professionally consult with. For instance, you mentioned Dr. Vera Price- in San Francisco- this is a start! Just tell us what you know- no more no less.Thank you.
I myself, have done research in locating a derm who specializes in hair diseases. I have found the following:

Dr. Susan Elizabeth Whitmore Dept. of Dermatology
Johns Hopkins University - Baltimore, Md.

Dr. Howard Baden 617-558-0077 fax- 617558-1776
Newton, Mass.Professor of Dermatology at Harvard University

Dr. George Cotsarelis 1-800-789-PENN
Univ. Of Penn. at Radner

Dr. Janet L. Roberts
Portland, Oregon 503-223-1933

Dr. Amy McMicheal 336-7163926
Wake Forest Univ. Winston-Salem,N.C.

ALSO check with the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY website.

Thanks. I will try and make up a list sometime. George Cotsarelis is a big name in the hair world, nice guy too. Howard Baden I have met a few times. I have heard of Drs Whitmore and Roberts but have not met them.

Hi Kevin,

First off, thank you for your knowlegeable responses.

Would you recommend a Dermatologist specializing in hair loss, in New York City, New York. I have seen many with little or no positive result.

Thank you, Nick

The one I know down town is very expensive but highly regarded in the hair research world. Dr Jean-Claude Bystryn at NYU, Ronald O Perlman department of dermatology. I forget the address, but down town Manhattan.

I would suggest Dr Daly of Garden City Dermatologists on Long Island if you can make it that far.

I saw this list above and saw Dr. Howard Badens name on it. I personally don't recommend that other individuals with a hair disorder see him. My experience going to see him was a VERY negative experience. I don't believe him to be the expert that he advertises himself to be.

TO ANONYMOUS.

MY SON HAS ALOPECIA AREATA AND WE WERE REFERRED TO DR BADEN ALSO. I FELT THE VERY SAME WAY. HE HAS NO COMPASSION AT ALL. HE ACTUALLY TOLD MY SON AND I THAT TREATMENTS ARE OF NO HELP IF THE HAIR IS GOING TO GROW BACK IT WILL GROW BACK IF YOU PUT TEA ON IT.

WE NEVER WENT BACK TO HIM AGAIN.

I DID FIND A GREAT DERM IN QUINICY, MA

DR DAVID WERTH AND HE IS GREAT.
