Diffuse Question - I would appreciate informed response

Hello all...I am a 32 year male and I was diagnosed with alopecia areata about a month ago. I have two small bald spots above both ears and then the hair becomes diffuse as you move toward the front of my head. It is basically like a strip about an inch above and around each ear is affected. I have full coverage on the top, back and upper sides of my head and even in the diffuse regions outside of the small bald spots I have about 50% of my hair left. I can cover it very well at this point if it's not wet.

I saw my dermatologist a month ago and received cortisone injection in both sides of my head. Fast forward three and a half weeks later and I just had my second round of injections. The condition has not gotten worse, but it has not gotten better yet either.

My question is this...because I have diffuse regions, is my condition bound to get progressively worse? My current dermatologist says it's not necessarily the case (he says it will regrow), but I don't know if he is being 100% honest. I am in LA and have an appointment with a well know AA dermatologist (Dr. Stricker) in 2 weeks. I am trying to be as proactive as possible to try and curb this now.

If it's just going to get worse I want to mentally prepare myself now. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am having a hard time dealing right now.
