HAIR LOSS & BREAST IMPLANTS

HI, I AM 38 YR OLD. DIAGNOSED 4 YRS AGO WITH HAIR LOSS, SIX YEARS AGO, I HAD BREAST IMPLANTS- THAT ARE SALINE. I READ THE DISCLOSURE/ IT STATES THAT BREAST IMPLANTS MAY LEAD TO HAIR LOSS.

IS THIS TRUE OF SALINE IMPLANTS??

I HAVE ALREADY DONE ALL KINDS OF TEST, HORMONE, TYROID, YOU NAME IT I HAVE DONE IT. THEY HAVE FOUND EVERYTHING TO BE NORMAL
YET, INITIALLY DERMATOLOGIST DIAGNOSED TE, LATER I WAS TOLD AGA.

TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE I HAVE RULED OUT EVERYTHING, NO FAMILY HISTORY AT ALL, ON EITHER SIDE OF MY FAMILY. I JUST CAN'T EXPLAIN IT. IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE.

CAN SOME ONE/ KEVIN PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INSITE ON THIS??? PLEASE.

Hair Loss and Implants

I just read your write up and your concern if there is a correlation between saline implants and hair loss. I don't know other than the FDA saying there is (something like 20% of reported unusual symtoms). However, I have the same concerns having had my implants put in about 4 years ago and the hair loss starting about 2 years ago with a diagnoses of LPP (and no family history of any hair loss issues). After a lot of agonizing over what to do I reluctantly had them removed. The surgery was the first week of May 04 and thus far no change. If this is the problem I already have scarring so the hair won't grow back, but I was hoping to stop further loss (I have to wear a hair piece, as it's that bad). No one including the PS's I saw and the rheumotologist would say that there was a connection however, the PS that did the surgery did wonder about something. That is the implants that I had were textured. She said that possibly small pieces of the texturing were released into my blood stream and might cause and auto immune disease (which is my diagnoses), as noted by the FDA.

So, if the implants were the problem, will by blood ever clean itself out? Tissues in the body also have memory and will they change? And finally, whatever else there could be that clearly I don't understand medically. However, I couldn't live with myself another day wondering. I did a lot of reading on the internet (in chat rooms) on the saline/implant isssue, but I never read about a woman that actually took the step to remove them. I will never be sorry I did this because if I continued to have further hair loss I would wonder if I should have done something sooner for the rest of my life. However, since I did it I suppose you can use me as an experiment to see if there will be a change. I honestly would not expect to see any improvement for a long time (a year)? If the loss stops I will try shots to my scalp to see if that helps with hair growth, but for now that would be throwing money out, as clearly this condition is progressing at this time.

One final note is about I feel emotionally about this. Honestly, I feel awful. Not only am I going bald, but now I have no figure, which clearly I enjoyed. I never went large (C), but I loved looking nice in my clothes. More to the point, I feel like a freak. I don't mean to sound depressing, but I have lost my hair and now another part of my anatomy. Still, as I said before I will never regret my decision. I wear pads in my bra, as no one knows I had the surgery (which is much easier to recuperate from than the original). Newer implants do not have a texture around them.

I don't know if you'll ever get to read this since I am posting it so far after you first wrote, but if you do and if there is anything I can do to help you along do not hesitate to contact me. Sometimes you just need a friend to talk to. If you do read this please at least let me know, as it will make me feel better. Thanks

Implants/Saline

Hi,

Sorry it has taken so long to reply but I don't check the site that often. I am very hesitent to leave my e-mail address, as it has my name on it. Re: the Yahoo chat room, I did look at it and that's partly how I arrived at my decision. But as I stated, I did not hear from one woman saying she removed them and her hair grew back. Perhaps I missed something.

Hair Loss and complications from Saline implants

All I can say is that I feel your pain. I am devastated as well as I have had 3 surgeries in one year due to complications from my Mentor adjustable saline implants. The first operation I got a hematoma the size of a tennis ball and was back in surgery 6 hours later. For the third surgery, my left breast ruptured and was replaced. Now, I am possibly facing another surgery due to capsular contraction from the hematoma scars in my right breast. Not only that, all of a sudden, 3 months after my 3rd surgery, I have lost 1/4 of all my hair. I have actual patchy bald spots right near my bang area of my head. My hair used to be full and I am mortified. I have been doing research for days on hair loss and saline implants. My doctor swears this is not the case, so I had tons of blood work. My thyroid and everything else is completely normal. So, what now? Do I continue to go bald or risk removing them and then possibly not even having the hair grow back? I might be disfigured and still have hair loss. I am not sure what to do at this point and only want the truth. Where did you see the disclaimer that implants may cause hair loss? If someone had their implants removed, did your hair ever grow back? PLEASE HELP! -Sarah

hair loss and implants

Hi Sarah 2,

Just got to the site today and noticed the replies went from 4 to 5 so I decided to check it out. I am the one that wrote about my hair loss and I reluctantly decided to have the implants removed based on hair loss and reading the Yahoo chat room site about this issue. When I did it I could not find 1 person that actually went through with the removal or had anything to say about hair regrowth. Nevertheless, I had to do it or I would drive myself crazy wondering. I removed them in July and it absolutely made no difference. My hair continues to fall out so I suppose for whatever reason I do have this strange auto immune condition called LPP. I certainly wish I didn't have to lose them, as I loved having "a shape." I suppose as a study of one, I would not advocate removing them for hair loss. On the chat site, a lot of women talked about anesthesia being the cause of hair loss. I can't advise you on that. I'm sorry (for both of us) that I couldn't offer you more hope.

removing implants

I just wanted to say that there is a site where you could find many explanted women. You could ask them if they experienced any regrowth after removing their implants. I know that many of them have needed to 'detox' their bodies after removal and they have a protocol for this. I do not know if this board will allow me to post the name of the site, but it is on Delphi Forums and you would have to try using the words "explant" to find it. Just came across this board and your post and wanted to help. Good luck to you.

detoxifying the body after implants are out.

Hello
I have been asked from a female at the age of 50, after she has had many health difficulties with her implants, now she has her implants out, she got in touch with me in yahoo chat room. I am assisting her body with a detoxifying nutrition plan. Her name is Sandy Verticelli you can find her story on ban implants webpage, like so many other female that are also having health problems. I am able to assist. Looking forward to talking with those who need assistance.

dtl_diamond_angel@yahoo.com I love assisting those with need.
