Long term high dose corticosteroids are not a good idea so probalby your options now or local steroid injections into the affected areas (you can get them done in eyebrows too) or topical corticosteroid creams. These can work but obviously are less potent than injections or systemic use.
There are cosmetics of course to cover up thin eyebrows. Look around this board for some recent discussion on this subject. _________________ Kevin - The management - keratin.com

Steriod absorbed always and forever!
If you have read my many posts on the subject I am not a big fan of steriods oral, topical, or the injected form. While the majority of cases my not have any side effects immediately most people are hypersensitive to steriods and absorb them too well to the point where their immunity takes quite a hit. I have talked to ten people in a psoriasis support group who have revealed to me that that weight gain, rounding of the face, or moon face was always a factor in their treatment with topical steriods. Now, lets go deeper injectable steriods - the super powerful steriods injected into the psoriais site had cause skin atrophy on half of the patients I spoke with. This wasting away of the skin is not good and many times can not be reversed. With all that topical and injected steriods produce in side effects they do work - just don't stop because all postive gains for the drug will be reversed - please look it up/do not take my word for it/look it up. Based on the above evidence on why would you take oral steriods for any length of time? Steriods are absorbed and deposited in your fat cells. They take forever to leave the body. So they are technically always in your system causing god knows what! If you were to transplant and organ yes by all means take steriods because it could save your life but for alopecia and growing hair!!! As desperate as I have become I would never take them because of what I has seen first hand myself the effects. Do'nt fool yourself thinking there is no problem with "short term use" because my friend their is. Years from now you will see how archaic steriod use for alopecia will be. Doctors will laugh at the notion that they used this damaging drugs on you for hair! Don't let the joke be on you. Peace to all.

["... Do'nt fool yourself thinking there is no problem with "short term use" because my friend their is...."
I respectfully disagree to this sweeping generalization. As a nurse, I feel that ANY serious medication such as Prednisone, can be quite beneficial to certain individuals. There are so many variables in each person's unique situation. It goes without saying that these medications need to be closely monitored by one's trusted health care professionals.
I am currently on short course of systemic Prednisone for AA. My dermatologist is renowned in the Philadelphia area for her methods, and I have every confidence that our treatment plan (which includes several medications) is the best for me. I may or may not have my hair restored, but my trust in her (and my own judgement) is unwavering.
God bless all of us who are dealing with this. .....One day at a time folks!

Guest, I am interested in your oral pred. regimen. Is it a 6 week taper or monthly pulses? Have you been through different regimens and found one that worked better for you than others? Also, what other meds are you on for AA, anything out of the ordinary? Good luck and thanks for sharing!!

Please don't take my word for it.....
Just do the medical research - fat cells store steriods ( they all end up there). What happens after that is yes debateable but for hair? I have a strong stance on this issue only because I also have psoriasis (Alot of experience with topical and oral). It took me two years for my face which mushroomed out and weight gain especially on the waist (male). My hunger was intense craved salt, craved bananas, and quite frankly thought I was going bananas on it. I was on 10mg (geratric dosage) twice a day for a month. My mood was horrible - rage and depressed. Maybe I was sensitive to it but having talked to others that have similar experiences well lets just say my mind is made up. jerry lewis, who is now 76 years old, now has pulmonary
fibrosis. that is a disease where your body replaces healthy lung
tissue with scar tissue. the docs are treating it with prednisone and
he has gained 44 pounds and is hardly recognizable. But I wish you the best of luck because in the end its a personal decision you make.

[quote="Ibeenthere"]Just do the medical research -
I did, "Ibeenthere." I am a nurse...Every situation is different. Jerry Lewis smoked heavily all his life and was on a HUGE steroid regimen, complicated by his many other physical problems related to his lifelong drinking & smoking habits....Prednisone can be a very beneficial drug, when used prudently to treat select health issues, and under close medical supervision......PS: I also have experience with psoriasis; our son had it for many years. Now 25, he is free of it, thanks to a treatment plan tailored for his particular situation.
PS: Happy July 4th

shark_g: If you have discussed this course of treatment in detail with your TRUSTED health care professional and agreed to try the regimen, I'd say: Go for it and see what happens. If at any point you experience anything which concerns you, call him/her right away and make any necessary adjustments.
Happy 4th!
