Teen hair loss

20-30 hairs a day is low shed rate - it should be no problem.

Anonymous,

This sounds like Alopecia Areata. Your doctor can recommend some treatments. Cortisone and Mixox is one approach.

The weather has nothing to do with it. This is an autoimmune disorder...no one knows what triggers it...and it can be very difficult to predict what will happen.

Some people will spontaneously regrow their hair...others will go through cycles of growth and shedding.

teen hair loss (hormones)

hi i'm a 15 year old girl whos been shedding alot since christmas. its recently gotten really bad, to the point where i'm only really washing my hair about once a week as just so much comes out when i do, and am starting to consider wearing my bandana whenever i leave the house. its not even just when i wash it, alot is always coming out, constantly.recent bloodtests have shown that i have extrememly low estrogen levels, and my endo has given me a gel for this. all i was wondering is how long is it going to be before my shedding stops, or at least slows considerably? i've only been on it for a week btu i was just hoping there would be some rough estimate as to when it would start to take action, that i could loook forward to
thank you so much
laura

For the parent of the 15 year old who is losing his hair, this is likely alopecia areata. You might contact the National Alopecia Areata Foundation for information and support. See; http://www.naaf.org

Hereditary baldness (pattern baldness, AGA) is often treated with propecia - at least in men. If you are a woman then homrone supplements or antiandrogen drugs can be used. Speak to your Doctor about options.

To the 15 year old with shedding since Christmas. Any treatment will take a while to kick in. It may be a month before you see shedding subside and it will take longer before seeing any hair regrowth. At 15 the hormones are still fluctuating around, but as you get older you should grow out of this and hopefully you will also see the hair loss settle down too. You should keep an eye on it though and if the hair loss persists you might need another blood test and a reevaluation of treatment options.
